Porto Novo in Benin is the main city and is the most interesting Benin towns and is belongs to the period when the Portuguese used to use it as a base for purchasing slaves who were brought from the New World. There are other attractions like the Musee Ethnographique which take you back to the history of Porto Novo and which has a great collection of Yoruba masks, and also see the Palais Royal of King Toffa which is today a museum. It shows how African Royalty lived here in the Colonial times. There is the Grand Marche d’Adjara which is held every fourth day. Then you have the interesting Brazilian style church which is today used as a mosque.

Then you have Cotonou in Benin which is again a very important city here. Cotonou is the centre of economic activity and has some interesting places to visit. The Ouidah slave part which is a very historical place is around 40 kms from Cotonou.
